Congress has been working on trying to pass the SAFER Banking Act for years. Whenever a new version of the bill comes up for a vote, it manages to sail through the House but stall in the Senate. It may happen again before 2024 draws to an end. However, the medical cannabis industry can proceed without SAFER by adopting alternative financial strategies and compliance frameworks to ensure continued growth and stability.

Why SAFER Is Needed

SAFER is a bill that has been on the cusp of passage several times in recent years. Its necessity stems from current federal restrictions that prevent most banks from getting involved with the cannabis industry. Any banks subject to federal oversight would be taking a huge risk offering traditional bank services and financing the cannabis growers, processors, and dispensaries.

If a bank decided to finance operations for Zion Medicinal in Cedar City, Utah, there could be dire consequences. Why? Because marijuana remains illegal at the federal level. Despite Utah giving the green light to medical cannabis, Washington would still frown on the banking industry getting involved.

Zion Medicinal operators say this only makes doing business more difficult for them. Not only can they not obtain traditional financing to fund their operations, but they are also unable to accept electronic payments. But as previously stated, there is a workaround brewing in the Beehive State.

A State Chartered Bank

According to a recent Payments Journal post, Utah regulators have given the green light to Colorado-based CanPay. CanPay can operate in Utah as a state-chartered bank. Being charted by the state means the company is not subject to federal oversight. They can freely offer payment services without worrying about retribution from Washington.

However, there is a caveat: Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments. Payments processed across the ACH network are subject to some federal regulations. So accepting such payments on behalf of cannabis companies is a gray area. Yet a state-chartered bank choosing to operate on the network could benefit from millions of transactions being processed daily.

According to Payment Journal, it would not be hard for a state-chartered bank and its dispensary customers to simply get lost in the volume of daily transactions. No one would be the wiser unless they went looking specifically for cannabis payments.

Bank Accounts Are a Big Help

I am not sure if CanPay offers traditional banking services in addition to electronic payments. I’m thinking business banking accounts. Even separate from electronic payments, just having access to a regular bank account would be a tremendous help to cannabis growers, processors, and dispensaries.

Imagine a local medical cannabis dispensary with no bank account. What happens to all the cash they collect at the end of the day? It needs to go somewhere. Having access to a bank account would change everything for the dispensary operator. Bills could be paid more easily, and the dispensary itself would be at less risk of robbery.

Perhaps It Will Be Moot

There is a way for the cannabis industry to proceed even without SAFER. But perhaps doing so will be moot in the not-so-distant future. Depending on how the 2024 election goes, there may be enough support in the Senate to get SAFER passed late this year or sometime next year.

Passing SAFER would give federally regulated banks the okay to engage with medical cannabis companies. But even if SAFER dies its usual death on the Senate floor, there is a workaround by way of state-chartered banks. One way or another, the medical cannabis industry is beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

If you are considering becoming a nurse or are just starting out in your nursing career, you probably have many questions about how to ensure you have a satisfying and successful long-term career. The following includes key tips for building a strong, stable nursing career that allows you to help patients and advance over time.

Getting the Right Training and Education

• Formal Nursing Education – To become a registered nurse, you need to first complete a formal nursing education program. The main options are either a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program or a shorter 2-3-year Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. There are also hospital-based diploma programs available.
• Licensure and Examinations – Once you graduate from an accredited nursing program, you need to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to receive your registered nursing license from your state. This license allows you to officially begin practicing as an RN.
• Continuing Nursing Education – In addition, most states require licensed nurses to complete a set amount of continuing education credits each year or several years to maintain their license. These credits ensure nurses stay up to date on the latest clinical developments, patient treatment guidelines, healthcare laws and regulations, and safe practices.

Finding Those Important First Nursing Jobs

Once licensed, there are nursing jobs available across diverse healthcare settings, like hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, physician offices, schools, public health departments, and home health agencies. For those interested in kick-starting their career in the state of Georgia for example, the people at SouthlandMD say there are an abundance of lucrative nursing positions and opportunities across cities like Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Macon, Columbus, and Albany. You can search for open jobs for nurses in Georgia online through industry-specific websites, local newspapers, professional associations, and broader job boards. When you identify positions of interest that align with your goals, submit complete job applications emphasizing your applicable nursing experiences.

Gaining Valuable Nursing Experience

Most entry-level nurses start working in fast-paced hospital settings to gain well-rounded experience assessing patients, developing care plans, performing interventions, administering medicine, and using the latest medical technologies. Working on busy medical-surgical floors helps new RNs manage priorities and hone critical thinking skills under pressure while rotating through different units. Seeking mentorship opportunities from more seasoned nurses can provide invaluable guidance.

Developing Your Target Nursing Specialty

After obtaining 1-2 years of broad medical-surgical nursing experience, most RNs focus their career into a specific specialty area that interests them. Popular nursing specialties include pediatrics, labor & delivery, critical care, emergency nursing, oncology, surgeries, geriatrics, psychiatry, community health, school nursing, and occupational health. Consider getting an advanced degree such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at this point to position yourself for greater leadership roles while delving deeper into your chosen concentration through advanced coursework and clinical preceptorships.

Strategically Advancing Your Nursing Career

As you gain more hands-on experience and nursing expertise, be proactive and take deliberate steps towards advancing your career over time into more rewarding nursing roles, such as:

• Volunteering for assignment as preceptor for new nurses.
• Applying for charge nurse positions to get exposure to unit oversight.
• Seeking promotions into management roles like Nurse Manager or Director.
• Getting involved in influential hospital committees that shape policies.
• Taking continuing education courses focusing on leadership and management.
• Writing articles, conducting research, or giving presentations to share your clinical insights.

Conclusion

Building an enriching, lifelong nursing career takes passion, commitment, and strategic planning through each stage. But the effort pays off through immense fulfillment helping heal and support patients across their healthcare journeys.

A specialized arthroplasty surgeon has training in multiple body areas and can perform procedures in each of those areas. The extensive training gives your surgeon the knowledge to help you recover comfortably after surgery, no matter what part of the body requires surgery. For instance, your arthroplasty surgeon could perform surgery on your knee one day and help you recover from shoulder surgery on another day if they have experience with both of these specialties. Let’s take a look at these specialties where an arthroplasty surgeon can help you recover and regain your life mobility again.

Sports Medicine

One of your arthroplasty surgeon’s specialties is in sports medicine. Since many common injuries that affect mobility are sports-related, it’s essential to visit a doctor with experience in dealing with these issues. Your arthroplasty surgeon can help you perform your activities with ease, reduce pain and discomfort and ensure a quick recovery.

You should be able to walk without limping or having knee, hip, or other joint pain; if you experience symptoms such as pain, discomfort, or limited range of movement, you should schedule an appointment with your arthroplasty surgeon as soon as possible.

Total Hip Replacement Surgery

Hip arthroplasty, or total hip replacement surgery, is one of many surgical specialties where your arthroplasty surgeon can help you perform your activities with ease. In fact, according to a survey conducted by Hip Implant Information Center in partnership with NPD Group, consumers report being more satisfied with their total hip replacements than any other type of orthopedic surgery.

Why? It’s because the procedure helps improve mobility and functionality for patients who experience hip pain from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. If you need an artificial hip joint replacement, it’s essential to choose an experienced arthroplasty surgeon who has completed years of training and demonstrated expertise in his field. An arthroplasty surgeon will help you regain your mobility through total hip replacement surgery.

Total Knee Replacement and Arthroscopy

If you have knee pain or stiffness that limits your movement, then you must be eager to regain your mobility. No one wants to remain in bed, with limited mobility, and cannot do simple daily tasks. That’s where your arthroplasty surgeon comes in; they will look into your knee injury for diagnosis and may recommend an orthopedic arthroscopy or a total knee joint replacement. An arthroplasty surgeon knows how to help you get back on your feet and run around!

Arthroplasty surgeries will help repair damaged joints by cleaning out debris or damaged cartilage while stabilizing bones and attaching them with screws or other mechanical fixtures. You might hear your doctor use the term joint replacement, which involves removing old bones from inside the damaged joint and replacing them with prosthetics from durable metals like titanium or carbon fiber.

Total Shoulder Replacement and Shoulder Arthroscopy

The shoulder comprises three bones, a bony capsule, and tendons and ligaments that offer stability. When an injury or disease interferes with these functions, you might need an arthroplasty surgeon to correct them. A common condition requiring arthroplasty for treatment is osteoarthritis. Other conditions can include Rheumatoid arthritis: This type of arthritis typically affects multiple joints at once—including those in your shoulders—and has no known cause or cure.

Rotator cuff injuries: Tears or ruptures within your rotator cuff are relatively common among athletes and individuals who make repetitive motions with their arms. While it’s possible to treat minor tears by icing them and taking anti-inflammatory medications, more severe tears may require surgical repair from an arthroplasty surgeon. Dr Meirs Johnson, MD Orthopedic Surgery, will help with total shoulder replacement or shoulder arthroscopy and allow your arm to regain mobility without experiencing pain.

General Orthopedics Care

In addition to performing your specific joint replacement surgery, your arthroplasty surgeon may also specialize in general orthopedic care. They can assist with soft tissue tears, fractures, and ligament repair that cause pain and limit mobility. Also, if you’re suffering from a chronic condition like arthritis, an orthopedist can help you manage it and keep your mobility intact.

Conclusion

Suppose you want to perform your activities without experiencing joint pains and other mobility issues. In that case, it’s a good idea to seek out an arthroplasty surgeon who has the experience and proven results. However, please do not wait to suffer for longer before you can look out for your arthroplasty surgeon; it will only make your injuries more complicated. You can contact Dr Meirs Johnson for all your orthopedic needs, such as total joint replacement and orthopedic arthroscopy.

Cancer of the mouth referred to as oral cancer can develop in the gums, lips, tongue, roof, or the bottom of the mouth. It usually appears as the sores, but it is challenging to identify them unless it causes serious complications. Most people get confused with general mouth sores and do treatments that worsen the situation even more.

When people go for a dental implant in London or visit their dentist for a routine check-up, the dentist identifies it and suggests doing some tests. It includes plenty of tests, examines the mouth, teeth, gums, face, and neck to check if something is wrong. The earlier your dentist detects the complication, the easier it becomes to start the treatment. It is another reason why you should regularly visit your dentist.

Identifying The Oral Cancer Signs

There are some signs and symptoms that you can consider as an alarm. Some of them are as follows:

If the swelling in your neck is painful and appears like tonsils, it can be a sign of oral cancer. Visit your dentist and do as he suggests rather than trying the home treatments.

Bad Breath

Foul breath on a random day is harmless. But if you experience it regularly and it doesn’t get better by brushing or using a mouthwash, it is a matter of concern. Check for any sores or lumps in your mouth, and also consider visiting a doctor to rule out the doubt of oral cancer.

If you see any of these symptoms, do not ignore them. It is vital to book an appointment with your dentist and get the tests done to rule out the cause. Do not be scared, as the early, you detect the signs, the higher are the chances of cancer getting cured. Moreover, as a safer side, never miss your regular dental check-up ever, ensuring that everything is going well in your mouth.

Age-related macular degeneration is a common disorder of the eyes that occurs in people who are 50 years above. It reduces your central vision and causes blurriness. The reason for these issues is the thinning of the macula. It is a part of your eye’s retina.

The macula is responsible for providing you clear vision in a direct line of sight. The condition of age-related macular degeneration develops in one or both eyes. Your vision may get worse over time. It affects your ability to recognize faces.

You may be unable to drive or read books with age-related macular degeneration. It does not mean you are going to lose your whole sight. Vision loss is central typically and people retain peripheral vision.

Some people face mild loss of central vision. It can be more severe in others. Self-care measures and eye detection help you to delay the loss of your vision due to age-related macular degeneration.

Symptoms

The symptoms of age-related macular degeneration develop gradually without any pain. These symptoms are given below.

• Visual distortions like straight lines seem bent
• Reduction in central vision in one or both of your eyes
• Need to have a brighter light around when doing close-up work or reading
• Issues in working with low light levels
• Decrease in brightness or intensity of colors
• Increase in printed words blurriness
• A well defined blind or blurry spot in your vision area

Age-related macular degeneration impacts one or both eyes. You may not notice clear changes in your vision if your one eye is affected. The reason is that your good eye compensates for the affected eye. This condition does not affect your side or peripheral vision.

Types Of Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration has two main types. These types are given below.

Dry Form

People with this condition may have some yellow deposits in the area of their macula that are called drusen. If you have small drusen in less amount then it may not cause alterations in your vision. But as they grow in size and number, they can cause a dim or distorted vision.

You may feel that you have a distorted or blurred vision especially at the time of reading. The light-sensitive cells in the area of your macula get thinner and start dying as the condition gets worse.

In atrophic form, people may have blind spots in the center area of their vision. You may lose your central vision when the condition becomes severe.

Wet Form

Blood vessels grow from the area underneath your macula. These blood vessels leak the fluid and blood into the area of your retina. That is the reason the straight lines start looking wavy because your vision is distorted now.

You may also experience loss of central vision. Your doctor may tell you that you have some blind spots in your eye. Bleeding of blood vessels starts forming scars that cause permanent loss of central vision.

Causes

Age-related macular degeneration commonly occurs in people of older age. You can say that it is the leading cause of eye problems that leads to a severe loss of vision in adults who are 60 years above. Macular degeneration may relate to your genes.

If anyone in your family has this condition then you are at the risk of developing this eye issue. Other risk factors include high cholesterol, being light-skinned, high blood pressure, being female, eating excessive saturated fat, and having the light color of your eyes.

Risk Factors

Following are the risk factors that may enhance the chances of developing age-related macular degeneration.

Age

The disease is common in people who are 60 years above.

Genetics And Family History

The disease has a component of heredity. Researchers have revealed that different genes are associated with the development of this condition.

Race

Caucasians suffer more from the condition of macular degeneration as compared to others.

Smoking

If you are exposed to smoke on a regular basis then it puts you at risk to develop macular degeneration.

Obesity

Being obese enhances the chances that you may have early or intermediate macular degeneration. It will progress to a more severe form in case of obesity.

Cardiovascular Disease

If you have a disease related to your blood vessels and heart then you are at higher risk of developing macular degeneration.
